Le Mars, Iowa

The body of Glenn W. Keough, 43, farmer near Maurice, IA. evidently victim of a car driven by a hit-and-run driver, was found Friday on highway 75 about one and three-quarters miles north of Le Mars.

Mr. Keough whose skull was crushed was believed to have been hitchhiking or walking from Le Mars to his home, about 9 miles north, Coroner S.H. Luken reported after an investigation. Sheriff Frank Scholer, who also investigated, said no arrests had been made Friday evening.

The body was found shortly after 2 a.m. Sheriff Scholer said, by four young men, members of a dance band which was returning to Le Mars after an engagement at Hawarden, IA. The sheriff said he was checking a report that Keough had been seen walking along the road about 1:20 a.m.

Two of the band members, as well as two Maurice youths who arrived shortly after them, remained with the body while the other two drove to Le Mars to report the death, Sheriff Scholer said.

Coroner Luken, noting that there was no shattered glass at the death scene and that injuries were to the head, theorized that Mr. Keough may have been struck by a truck rack.

Mr. Keough was born July 14, 1903 in Sioux County.

Survivors include the widow, Esther; a daughter, Lynne; and a son, Thomas, all of Maurice; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Keough of Spencer, IA, and a sister, Mrs. E.F. Ruggert of Curry, MN.
