Funeral services for Leona J. Kroon, 78, were held Monday, May 11, at 2 p.m. in Bethlehem Lutheran Church , Askov, with Rev. James Sodergren officiating. Casketbearers were Mike Kroon, Rocky Kroon, Jimmy Lee Kroon, Jeffrey Kroon, Darrell Loew and Vernon Samualson.

Leona Jane Kroon, daughter of Richard and Gertrude Kroon, was born Dec. 9, 1913 in Hull, Iowa. She moved with her family to a farm in the Bruno area as a child She attended school. She worked at 3M in Minneapolis as a young woman and also took care of children for a number of years. She moved into Sandstone Area Nursing Home when it was built 33 years ago. She had been the nursing home correspondent for the Sandstone and Askov newspapers for many years. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, and also ceramics. She was always willing to help others and will be missed by many people at the nursing home. Leona died Fri. May 8, in North Pine Area Hospital of Sandstone.

She is survived by a son, James (Joyce) of Sturgeon Lake; a brother, Richard Kroon of Sandstone; a sister, Della Gibson of Hudson, WI; five grandchildren; a nephew, Vernon Samualson of Lake City.

Interment was in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Askov, Arrangements by Methven Funeral Home, Sandstone, MN.
