Lawrence Peters passed away January 13, 2015. He was 80 years old and 6 months.

Funeral services were Saturday, January 17, 2015, at 1:30 P.M. at the First Reformed Church, Sibley, Iowa with the Reverend Al Honken officiating. Family Prayer Service was held at 1:15. Burial was at Baker Township Cemetery at rural Melvin, Iowa and arrangements were under the direction of Andringa Funeral Home.

Lawrence Wayne Peters was born on July 13, 1934 in rural Ocheyedan, Iowa. He was the son of John and Marie (Joens) Peters and step-mother, Florence (Groniga) Peters. He lived his youth in Ocheyedan, where he attended a country school until the 6th grade and graduated from Ocheyedan High School.

He was united in marriage to Julia “Judy” M. Schiphoff of Melvin, Iowa on April 21, 1960 at the Melvin First Reformed Church. They farmed in the Ocheyedan and May City, Iowa area until Lawrence became ill and had to discontinue farming in 1984. They lived in the May City area until 1990 and then moved to Ocheyedan. In 2011, they moved to Sibley, Iowa.

Lawrence was a member of Melvin First Reformed Church where he served as a Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School Superintendent. He liked to go fishing at Silver Lake and up-north fishing and vacationing with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends.

Lawrence was known for his teasing and sense of humor. He will be admired for his strength and ability to endure his illness.

He passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at his home in Sibley.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 54 years: Judy Peters of Sibley, Iowa; his children: Sandy and Ken Heronimus of Sibley, Iowa and their children, Derek and Ashley Heronimus and their child, Kalen, Ashlee and Josh Terpstra and their children, Kennedy and Lane; Susie and Jay Delaney of Ocheyedan, Iowa and their children, Travis and Jill Boeke and their child, Emma, Megan and Brian Loerts and their children , Brysen and Jaxton; Lori and Kurt Spartz of Wilmont, Minnesota and their children, Ryan Spartz, Rachael Spartz, and Riley Spartz; Linda and Cliff Mehls of Sibley, Iowa and their children, Jessica Mehls and Evan Mehls; John and Cari Peters of Ocheyedan, Iowa and their children, Angela Peters, Kyle Peters and Karsen Peters; one sister: Joyce and Delbert Heckman of Lacona, Iowa; one sister-in-law: Marcia Peters of Spencer, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother and one brother, Orville Peters.
