Memorial services for Colleen Vande Brake, age 70, of Sheldon, who passed away Wednesday, February 15, at the home of her son in Deer Park, Wisconsin, were held on Saturday morning, February 18, at Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon, with the Reverend Kim Rufhuss officiating.

Burial was prior to the service in East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. Visitation was held on Friday afternoon and evening, February 17, with the family present from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon. Vander Ploeg Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Colleen Dee Vande Brake, the daughter of Dick and Winifred (Dykstra) De Jongh, was born October 13, 1935 in Hull, Iowa. She graduated from the Hull Public High School in 1954.

Colleen was united in marriage to Virgil Vande Brake on June 21, 1957 in Hartley, Iowa. The couple made their home in Hartley for 6 years before moving to Sheldon, Iowa where they have resided for the past 45 years.

Colleen passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at the home of her son, Troy, in Deer Park, Wisconsin, reaching the age of 70 years, 4 months and 2 days.

Colleen was a member of the Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. She loved to fish up at her summer home at Leech Lake, Minnesota. She was an avid snowmobiler and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her retirement up north with her husband.

Colleen leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Virgil of Sheldon, Iowa; two sons, Scott R. Vande Brake of Roberts, Wisconsin; Troy A. Vande Brake and his wife, Rachel of Deer Park, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Johnathan S., Sheraea L., Devon M., Dannika J., Kelly C. and Morgan V. Vande Brake; two sisters, Lorraine Bos of Missouri; Edna and her husband, John Hime of San Antonio, Texas; a sister-in-law, Muriel De Jongh of Springfield, Missouri; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Kel Dean Vande Brake; her parents, a brother, Marlo De Jongh; a sister and brother-in-law, Verga and Moris Nettinga; and a brother-in-law, Garrett Bos.
