Leonard R. Nyhof, 73, Sioux Center died Wed. Sept. 3, at a farm in O'Brien County due to a massive heart attack.
Services were Sat. Sept. 6, at Faith Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Bernie Haan officiating. Burial was at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Len Nyhof son of Gerrit and Gertrude (Vande Kieft) Nyhof, was born Jan. 25, 1935, on a farm near Ireton and grew up on a farm near Sioux Center. He attended country school until the seventh grade and then finished his secondary education at Sioux Center Christian School. He graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull in 1954.

He married Myna Hulstein on March 16, 1956, in Sioux Center. He served his country in the U.S. Army 1957-1963. He was an essential part of organizing in Army National Guard unit in Sioux Center in the late 1970s. He spent most of his employment years working for himself. He owned and operated Nyhof Turf and Trail in Sioux Center 1965-1981.

He purchased the Culligan dealership in Orange City in 1984 and owned and operated that dealership until he semi-retired in 1996 and sold the dealership to his daughter and son-in-law. In his retirement years, he worked in various jobs, including his own Handy Man business.

He was an active member of Faith Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center of which he was a charter member.

He was previously a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. He served several terms as an elder and deacon.

He had a deep faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ. He also was involved over the years in many community and mission projects.

He was an area manager for CRWRC (Christian Reformed World Relief Committee disaster response team. They enjoyed serving in this capacity.

He loved being a part of any activity that involved his children and grandchildren. He rarely missed an opportunity to be involved in any activity that was important to his family.

Survivors include his wife, Myna of Sioux Center; two sons, Leo and Pam Nyhof of Kalamazoo, MI and Lyle and Alice Nyhof of Sioux Center; two daughters, Lora and Jess Elliott of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Linda and Shon Oertel of Orange City; 14 grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Gilmer and Gladyce Nyhof of Sioux Center; and six sisters, Carol and Marvin Harmelink of Alton, Lavonne and Neil Quirin of Alta,Vel and Abe Flory of Paso Robles, CA, Marlys and Duane Hansen of Ferndale, WA. Myra and Don Smit of Alamosa, CO, and Betty and Merlin De Groot of Sheldon.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Brad Eisma.

Memorials may be directed to local Christian schools.
