Mr. Gerald D. Van Tubergen, 75, died Wednesday morning, August 29, 2007, at his home in Denton, Texas, following a history of cardiac disease. A memorial service was held on Saturday, September 1 with Dr. Larry Reynolds officiating. Funeral arrangements were held by Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz & Son, Denton, Texas.

Gerald was born in Ashton, Iowa, the son of Edward Van Tubergen and Susan (Harmelink). On May 31, 1958 he married Marcella Van Wyk in Sheldon, Iowa. They made their first home in Newkirk and soon after built their new home and Van’s Calf Farm in Hospers, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marcella, September 16, 1984. Gerald and Lucy were married on December 30, 1999.

He loved working outdoors and he was an avid basketball fan (especially Iowa Hawkeyes and Dallas Mavericks).

Gerald was an import/export cattle dealer in Iowa. When he retired, Gerald and Lucy moved to Texas to be closer to their children. Those that knew Gerald knew how much he enjoyed his family and being with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy; son, Randy; five daughters, Chris, Peggy, Judy, Lisa, Valerie; stepson, Yuri; three sons-in-law, Roger, Bola, James; grandchildren, Lauren, Jordon, Alice, Ashleigh, Lindsey, Lisa, Samantha, Baylee; brother, Edward.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marcella, September 16, 1984 and his three sisters.
