John Van Iperen, 73, of Spirit Lake, formerly of Alton and Hospers, died on Wednesday, November 21, at Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake.

Private family services were held on Saturday morning, November 24, at Turner Funeral Home in Spirit Lake, with the Reverend Gordon Bloemendaal officiating. Burial was in Lakeview Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Corey Erkes, Jerry Erkes, Ken Herington, Barry Van Iperen, Bruce Van Iperen and John Weland.

Visitation for friends and family Friday afternoon and evening, November 23, with the family present from 5:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home.

John H. Van Iperen was born May 29, 1934, at home on the family farm near Alton, to Bastian and Tracy (Hulst) Van Iperen.

On September 18, 1952, he was married to Shirley Schuller in Hawarden.

They farmed at Alton, then moved to Hospers, where he owned and operated Van Iperen Feed and Grain. In 1983, they moved to Spirit Lake.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, daughters and their husbands Bonne and Jerry Erkes of Sergeant Bluff and Brenda and Ken Herington of Kalona, sons Bruce Van Iperen of Omaha, Nebraska, and Barry Van Iperen and his wife Julie of Lake Park, seven grandchildren, a great-grandchild and sister Joan Weber of Hartford, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.
