Ila B. Vander Hamm, 100, of Scotland, South Dakota, died December 6, at Good Samaritan Center in Scotland. Funeral service was December 9, at United Methodist Church in Ireton. Pastor Tim Walker officiated. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Ireton. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Goglin-Kelly Funeral Home of Scotland and Porter Funeral Home of Hawarden.

Ila Belle Vander Hamm was born on Thursday, December 7, 1905 in Sioux County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Bruce and Flossie (Thomas) Houlton. She married Lorenz Vander Hamm on June 6, 1928. Ila taught school in Iowa for many years, after which she owned and operated restaurants in Ireton and Sibley, Iowa. Lorenz and Ila moved to California in 1956. While in California, she worked with troubled teens in San Bernadino County. She moved to Scotland in September of 1991. For the past few years, Ila has resided at the Good Samaritan Center in Scotland.

She is survived by three daughters, Chalma Oleson of Spanish Fort, Alabama, Charleen Rhodes of Destin, Florida, and Nadine Foley of Scotland; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Vander Hamm of Davis, California; 12 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Houlton; and three sisters, Lois Rose, Fern Eilts and Marjorie Johnson, all of Ireton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lorenz, son Charles, three sisters, Mae Poll Riter, Helen Lemke and Neva Brown, and a son-in-law, Dennis Foley.
