Evelyn Veenker, 79, of Lake Park passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, Iowa.

Services were Saturday, July 21, at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park, with the Reverend Donna Gray officiating. Burial was at Silver Lake Cemetery in Lake Park, under the direction of Turner Funeral Home in Lake Park.

She was the daughter of Fred and Dena (Zorgdrager) Korthals. She was born on August 6, 1927, near Boyden, Iowa, where she attended country schools.

On May 23, 1946, she married Lloyd (Bud) Veenker, and they farmed near Sibley and Harris. In 1976 they moved to Lake Park. Evelyn and her husband both worked at Berkley and Company for several years until retirement. Evelyn had many hobbies including knitting, crocheting, sewing, crafts, gardening, flowers, fishing, and playing cards. Evelyn also took pleasure in her Dutch Delft collection.

Evelyn was baptized at the Reformed Church in Boyden, where she later became a member. After marriage she was also a member of the Zoar Presbyterian Church near George, the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley, and was currently a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park.

Her Husband, Bud, passed away on August 22, 1998. Also preceding her in death was a son, Gene, a grandson-in-law, Gregg Hassebroek, and special friend, Quentin Johnson. Those left to cherish her memory are children Dennis and Audrey Veenker of Sibley and Bonnie and Kurt Anderson of Lake Park; grandchildren Dee Dee Hassebroek of Camdenton, Missouri, Karla Ray of Slayton, Minnesota, and Kristen Anderson of Omaha, Nebraska; great-grandchildren Trevor, Taylor, Alex and Adam Hassebroek, and Jesse Wittrock. Evelyn has three brothers: Edward (Thelma) of Buffalo, Minnesota, Fritz (Bobbie) of Worthington, Minnesota, and Morrie (Ruth) of Omaha, Nebraska and four sisters: Henrietta Huenink of Steen, Minnesota, Christina Pierce of Sioux City, Iowa, Margaret (Orval) Harberts of George, Iowa, and Dorothy Sides of Friendsville, TN.
