Raymond “Ray” John Schuver, 80, Sanborn, died Sunday, February 4, at his residence.

Services were Wednesday, February 7, at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Sanborn, with Father Tim Hogan officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery, under the direction of Sanborn Funeral Home.

Ray Schuver, son of Anton and Christina (Nemmers) Schuver, was born May 18, 1926, in Granville, where he spent his childhood years and attended St. Joseph Catholic School. He married Wanda Mulder on April 10, 1948, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. They moved to a farm northeast of Sanborn, where they farmed. They moved to Sanborn in 1985, but continued to farm the family home place.

He was a member of St Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Sanborn. He was active in the 10 and 20 stock club. He served on the elevator board, F.H.A. board and Sheldon Country Club board for several years. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and baseball. Spending time on his farm and working with his machinery kept him going. Most of all, he enjoyed going to Jay’s Restaurant in Sanborn for coffee, where he would laugh, joke and visit with friends.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Schuver of Sanborn; five children, Steve and Tracey Schuver of Everly, Barbara and Jack Koon of Chino Valley, Arizona, Patricia and Tim Cooper of Indianola, Marie and Monte Maranell of Carlisle, and Susan and Douglas Jacoby of Houston; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Marcel and Gwen Schuver of Granville; and a brother-in-law, Francis Murphy of Granville.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Murphy; two nieces, Beverly Schuver and Ellen Schuver; a great-niece, Morgan Schuver; and a brother-in-law, Darwin and LaVonne Mulder.
