Nelle Constance Thompson,94 of Sioux Center, formerly of Winside, NE. died Thurs. Jan. 11 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

A memorial service was Mon. at 3 p.m. at Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center, with Rev. R. Van Rathbun officiating.

A graveside committal service was Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery of Wayne, NE.

Mrs. Thompson was born May 9, 1912, at Carroll, NE. the daughter of Ernest and Myrtle (Robinson) Elder. She lived near Presho, S.D. most of her childhood, returning to Carroll in her teen years, where she graduated from high school. She attended Wayne State Normal School and taught in Rose Center, a two-room school near Kennebec, S.D. On Oct. 28, 1935, she married Duane E. Thompson at Mitchell, S.D. They farmed for several years in S.D. near Kennebec and Presho. In 1939, they moved to a farm near Winside where they lived and raised their family. They retired in 1973 and moved into a home in Winside. In 1994, following her husband's death she moved to Sioux Center where she lived at the New Homestead Apartments until her death.

She enjoyed dressmaking, gardening, cheering for the Nebraska Cornhusker football team and visiting with friends. She attended Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center and was a member of the Afternoon Circle. She will long be remembered by those who knew her for her kindness, her strong spirit, her sense of humor, her pragmatism and her hats.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Junith Casper of Redding, CA. Sonia and Bill Hixson of Santa Fe, N.M. and Jerilyn and Roger Lueders of Sioux Center; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Arral Thompson and his wife Esther of Panora; a sister-in-law, Peggy Thompson of Muskegon, IL.; two favorite nieces, Myrna Anderson of Ankeny and Lorna Hasbrouck of Atherton, CA; many other nieces and nephews; and her dear friend, Henrietta Vanden Brink of Sioux Center.

She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Claire Casper; a sister, Della June and her husband Dale Thompson; two sisters-in-law; and four brothers-in-law.
