Died: August 14, 2002 Siouox Center, Iowa

Elsie Te Grotenhuis, 72, of Sioux Center died Wed. Aug. 14, at Sioux Center Community Nursing Facility.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Carmel Reformed Church in Carmel with Rev. Mark Heijerman officiating. Burial was in Carmel Cemetery.

Mrs. Te Grotenhuis was born Jan. 12, 1930 in Sioux Center to John and Elsie (Wassink) Broek. She graduated from Western Christian High School. She married Gaynor Te Grotenhuis on Jan. 3, 1951, in Carmel. The couple farmed near Carmel until retiring and moved into Sioux Center in 1997.

She was a member of Carmel Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday school, catechism, Bible School led Bible study and held numerous offices in the RCWM. She also played the organ and piano for over 50 years and instructed many piano students.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years; three children, Donna (John) Hulshof of Rock Rapids,Wayne (Jean) Te Grotenhuis of Sioux Center and Beth Te Grotenhuis of Chandler, AZ; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bill (Ina) Broek of Orange City, John (Gert) Broek Jr. of Sioux Falls and Cornie (Berdie) Broek of Sioux Center; four sisters, Margaret De Koter of Orange City, Matilda (John) Van Beek of Ireton, Bertha Klein of Sioux Center and Chris Schouten of Ireton; sister-in-law, Cora Broek of Sioux Center and Cornelia Broek of Rock Valley; brother-in-law, Jim Franken of Sioux Center, Mother-in-law, Hattie Te Grotenhuis of Sioux Center; three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lester and Joan Te Grotenhuis of Sioux Center, Marvin and Wanda Te Grotenhuis of Boulder, CO and Jerry and Linda Van't Hul of Sheldon; and nieces and nephews.

Memorials in her name may be directed to New Horizon Fund, in care of Carmel Reformed Church.
