Neva Shanard, 79, of Mitchell, South Dakota, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Services were March 17 at the First Presbyterian Church in Mitchell. Burial was in the American Legion Cemetery in Mitchell.

Neva Jean Bartlett was born January 26, 1928, the daughter of Franklin and Lillian Bartlett in Ireton. The family moved to San Bernadino, California, where Neva attended school and married Leighton Linn on August 21, 1949. She moved to Bridgewater, South Dakota, Howard, South Dakota, and Mitchell, South Dakota. She married George Shanard on March 10, 1988.

She was a member of P.E.O. , AP Chapter, Delta Sigma Phi sorority, and a volunteer for both the South Dakota Republican Party and Middle Border Museum and Oscar Howe Art Center.

Survivors include her husband, George Shanard of Mitchell; Franklin Bartlett of San Bernadino, California; step-children, George Shanard, III of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Lauren Smalley of Burlington, Vermont, Kari Koenders of Sioux Falls, and Heidi Neuhart of Parker, Colorado; and three grandchildren
