William Gregg Snyder, 91, of Alton passed away Thursday, June 21, 2007, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, with the Reverend John Vakulskas officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery at Granville, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Florence; a daughter, Pamille Bird; a daughter-in-law, Betty Snyder; a sister, Lenora Meehan; and two brothers, Marshall and Robert.

William Gregg Snyder was born May 25, 1916, in Marcus, Iowa, to Bartholomew and Alice (Carey) Snyder. He attended country school near his home. Following his education, he worked at a repair shop between Marcus and Granville, Iowa.

On October 26, 1938, he married Florence W. Witte. Gregg attended mechanics school in Detroit, Michigan, and returned to Marcus to work in various auto repair garages. He would later become a truck driver and eventually purchased two gravel trucks. In 1954, the family moved to Alton, where Gregg owned and operated Snyder Repair. He changed to golf cart repair in 1980. Florence passed away on September 17, 1989.

Gregg married Arlene (Hesse) Schumann on August 17, 1991, in Granville, Iowa. He retired from golf cart repair in 2002. They remained in Alton until Gregg moved to Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars on January 2, 2007. Gregg enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, trips to the casino and was an avid golfer.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Arlene of Alton; a son, Rodney Snyder and daughter, Deborah (Wayne) Evans, all of Granville, Iowa; grandchildren, Timothy Snyder, Kathy Vrieze, Kimberly (Phil) Scorza, Theresa (Tim) Jellema and Dustin (Michelle) Evans; great-grandchildren, Randall, Brittany and Erin Snyder, John, Jacob and Katie, Rus, Kassie and Daimon Scorza, Nathan Vrieze, Andrew Fiedler, Bea, Caroline, Tabitha and Skyler Gries; step-children and their families, Darwin (Kathy) Schuman of Wichita, Kansas, Marilyn (Dallas) Tyler of Mattoon, Illinois; Veryl Schumann of Pensacola, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
