Death: March 18, 2007Henry Schwebach, 75, of Granville,Iowa, Sioux County, died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at McAllen Medical Center in McAllen, Texas, following a lengthy illness. Henry was born May 4, 1931, on the family farm in rural Granville, the son of John and Catherine (Niichel) Schwebach. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 5347.
Services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, with the Rev. Richard Ball officiating.
He attended Baker Township country school, then St. Joseph's Catholic School in Granville, graduating in 1948. He then farmed with his father until March 10, 1953, when he entered the U.S. Army. He served in Korea and was honorably discharged March 10, 1955, then returned to farming.
He married Delores Kahl of Rock Rapids, Iowa on March 4, 1957, in Granville. They lived in rural Granville and he continued farming with his father. After his father's retirement, the couple moved to the home place, where they continued to farm until their retirement in 1993. They then moved into Granville and spent their winters in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5347 of Granville. He enjoyed doing stained glass artwork.
Survivors include his wife, Delores of Granville; three sons, Russell and his wife, Lori Jo of Granville, Camron of Sheldon, Iowa, and Gary and his wife, Mary of Remsen, Iowa; two daughters and their husbands, Kay and Dan Conley of Victoria, Texas, and Melissa "Mit" and Jim Skinner of Paullina, Iowa; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; three sisters, Mary Ann Steichen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Alvina Berning of Adrian, Minnesota, and Iva and her husband, Ray Goergen of Slayton, Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill and John; three sisters, Esther Ollendick, Rosalia Schwebach and Catherine Stallmann; and a brother and sisters in infancy.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5347 of Granville.
