Died: February 12, 2007Caroline Riebeling, 86, Thorton, Colorado, formerly of George, died Monday morning, February 12, at her home.
Services were Saturday, February 17, at Lyon County Presbyterian Church in George, with the Reverend Paul Fisher officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, under the direction of Roste Funeral Home in George.
Caroline Riebeling, daughter of Leonard and Tena (Zordrager) Scholten, was born July 19, 1920, near Matlock. She graduated from George High School and continued her education career at St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City, where she became a registered nurse. She started her long career in nursing at Hull Hospital. Later moving to rural George, she worked at Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids. She was a longtime member of Hope Reformed Church in George. She moved in 1970 to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where she finished her nursing career at McKennan Hospital. Upon retirement in 1985, she moved to Denver to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She transferred her church membership to First Avenue Presbyterian Church in Denver, where she was a dedicated member until her death. She married Rudolph “Rudy” Riebeling on January 24, 1945.
She loved caring for her grandchildren, sewing flannel blankets and reading local Iowa newspapers.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Lou and Eduardo Lucero of Denver, Edna Mae Busse of Denver and Glenda Riebeling of Denver; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gene and Gert Scholten and Leonard and Roberta Scholten; a sister, Sally Scholten; and two brothers-in-law, Duane Buttenob and Wallace and Florence Winter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy Riebeling; a son, Dale Riebeling; a brother, John Scholten; two sisters, Lena Mae Winter and Christina Buttenob; and two infant siblings.
