Bertha Rhods, 81, Rock Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rock Valley.

Services were Monday, April 23, at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley, with the Reverend Mike Van Hamersveld officiating. Burial was at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley.

Bertha Rhods, daughter of Cornelius “Case” and Aaltje “Alice” Van Dyke, was born February 20, 1926, in Hull. She married Donald “Al” Rhods on November 23, 1942. She was a custodian for Rock Valley School District. She later worked for the Foster Grandparent Program. Mr. Rhods died December 28, 2004. She moved to Rock Valley in August 2005. Her prognosis was not very hopeful, but she really gained strength both physically and spiritually. She was content and enjoyed her home at Valley Manor.

Survivors include two sons, Bernie and Frances Rhods of Rock Valley, and Ken and Linda Rhods of Rock Valley; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Everdena Renken of Irene, South Dakota, Tillie Helgerson of Rock Valley, Gerrit and Annette Van Dyke of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Alice and Dick Hansen of Casper, Wyoming, and Kay De Vos of Rock Valley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald “Al” Rhods; a sister, Angeline Van Dyke; and two brothers, Tony Van Dyke and John Van Dyke.
