Everly Popovich, 71 of Sioux Center suffered a massive stroke a few weeks earlier and died Nov. 7 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Memorial services were at 1 p.m. Sat. at Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Rev. John Riggle of Hope Lutheran Church officiating.

Mrs. Popovich was born May 8, 1929 in Sioux Center, the daughter of Henry and Willemina (Van Putten) Wissink. She grew up and was educated in the Sioux Center schools. She received first place at a national music contest. She graduated from Sioux Center High School as valedictorian of her class. She attended Moringside College and graduated from Northwestern College with a bachelor's degree in humanities and elementary music education. She married Nick Popovich on Aug. 18, 1951 in Minneapolis, MN. She taught rural school for six years and elementary vocal music in Sioux Center Community Schools for 26 years. She also wrote a column for the "Sioux Center News."

She was a member of First Reformed Church and was a pianist for Hope Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary, Retired Teachers Association/ISEA/NEA, Care Review Committee-Sioux Center Hospital and election judge. She taught English as a second language to area families. She had many hobbies and enjoyed lifelong learning.

Survivors are seven children, Wade and Linda Popvich of Burke, VA, Ned and Linda Popovich of Chester, VA, Doreen and Scott Eiseland of Baxter, MN, Denise and Dave Harrison of Sioux Center, Steve and Terry Popovich of Huntington Beach, CA. and Mike and Barb Popovich of Aurora, CO; 18 grandchildren; one brother, William Wissink; two sisters, Winona Jansen and Gertrude Wissink.

She was preceded iini death by her parents, a brother, Marion; a brother-in-law, Henry Jansen; and one granddaughter.
