Sue Ellen Richardson, age 52, of Orange City, formerly of Lake Park, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2007, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, October 20, at 10 a.m., at the American Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Keith Krebs and the Rev. Lizbeth Moss will officiate. There will be a graveside service on Saturday, at 1:30 p.m., at the Silver Lake Cemetery in Lake Park, with the Rev. Donna Gray officiating.Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Sue Ellen (Kuehl) Richardson was born in Fairmont, Minnesota to JoAnn (McDowell) and M.J. Dick Kuehl on April 1, 1955. She passed away after a long journey with breast cancer. Her family moved to Lake Park, Iowa when she was two where she graduated from Harris-Lake Park High School with the class of 1973. She graduated from Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and a Masters Degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1993.

Sue began her teaching career in Osage, Iowa, where she taught third grade. From 1978 to 1999, she taught mostly first grade at Harris-Lake Park Community Schools. She also spent one year at Wee Blessings Pre-School in Orange City. She felt privileged to be a part of young people and their lives. Sue's humor and positive outlook altered the lives of everyone she met.

Sue was married to Mike Brady on August 5, 1978 in Lake Park, Iowa. They had a son, Tyler Garrett Brady, born March 28, 1982 in Spirit Lake, Iowa. They were later divorced. Sue married Gary Richardson in Milford, Iowa on April 11, 1987. They were blessed with two daughters, Mallory Jo Richardson on June 27, 1988 and Tess Marie Richardson, on February 25, 1992.

Sue was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park and American Reformed Church in Orange City. She taught Sunday school, Bible school and served on Consistory as an elder and a deacon. She found it important to share her faith with others. She was a member of the Soul Sisters Bible Study group for those battling cancer.

In her leisure time, Sue loved to exercise by walking and playing tennis. She also enjoyed reading, playing cards and games, baking, shopping, having lunch with friends or watching sports and the "Young and the Restless" on TV.

Her greatest joy was cheering for her children as they participated in sports and musical events and also the teams that Gary coached. She was a Reach to Recovery volunteer for the American Cancer Society and participated in many "Race for the Cure events.

Left to cherish her memory are husband Gary, of twenty years and children Tyler Brady of Johnston, Iowa , and Mallory and Tess Richardson of Orange City, Iowa. Sue is survived by her mother, JoAnn Conley and her husband, Hap of Spirit Lake, Iowa and Sun Lakes, Arizona, her sister, Kelly and Verne Murray and son Michael of Ankeny, Iowa, brother Steve Kuehl of San Francisco, California and brother Kevin Kuehl and daughters Haley and Megan of Alexandria, Minnesota. Also her mother and father-in-law Norman and Roger Richardson of Keota, Iowa and Alamo, Texas, Sister-in-laws Pam Hammes and daughters, Janna of Washington, Iowa, Melissa and Dave Mabon of North Liberty and Megan and Nic Plecker and son, Chase of Fairfax, Iowa, Peg and Tito Trevino and children Olivia and Alex of Fort Dodge, Iowa and Pat and Jon Jaacks and sons Kyle and Eric of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Sue was preceded in death by her father, infant nephew and grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be designated to the Harris-Lake Park Elementary Library, the MOC-Floyd Valley Foundation, The June E. Nylen Cancer Center, Home Health and Hospice of the Orange City Area Health System, First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park or American Reformed Church in Orange City.
