Charles Robert Presler, 62, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2007, at his home in Hawthorne, California.

Charles called “Toddie” by his family, was born in Arizona on April 24, 1945. He was raised and schooled in Ireton, Iowa, and Westlake, Ohio, graduating from Westlake, High School in 1963. He attended Cuyahoga Community College and Ohio State University, and was employed as a seaman on merchant vessels sailing the Great Lakes. He served in the U.S. Army, 1st Field Force HQ, with a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1968-1969.

On completion of his service duty, he opened and operated a master carpentry shop in Los Angeles County, California for 30 years. In retirement, he continued his love of sports, reading, and the sea. He was a past member of John Knox Presbyterian Church in North Olmsted, Ohio, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Local 1250 of the UAW.

He is survived by a daughter, Natasha Presler, of California; his parents, Phyllis and Alden Presler of Wakeman, Ohio; two sisters, Petrena Volker (Richard Aylsworth) of Westlake, Ohio and Marilla Presler of Atwater, Ohio; a brother, Fred (Melanie) Presler of Amherst, Ohio; and by many loving aunts and uncles, including Ardis Eilts of Ireton, Iowa and Marjorie and Earlo Smith of San Angelo, Texas, and by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends across the country.

He was preceded in death, among others, by his maternal grandparents, Harry and Nellie Smith of Ireton, and an uncle, Bill Eilts, also of Ireton.

His earthly remains were cremated and scattered on the Pacific Ocean. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
