Joe Ney, 91, Sheldon, died Monday, June 25, at Sanborn Sheldon Medical Center.

Services were Friday, June 29, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon. Burial was at the church cemetery, under the direction of Andringa Funeral Home.

Joe Ney, son of John and Mary (Klein) Ney, was born March 30, 1916, near Granville. He spent his early years in the Granville area and attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School. He married Armella Poncelet on May 19, 1941, in Granville area. They lived in the Granville area for a year before moving to the Sheldon area, where they made their home. He was a dairy farmer and farmed until 1986. When he retired, he worked at McGillick’s assembling farm equipment. He then worked with his son, Mike, on a farm south of Sheldon until 2005.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon, where he attended Mass daily and served as an usher for several years.

Survivors include his wife, Armella Ney of Sheldon; eight children, Ted and Bonnie Ney of Parma, Idaho, JoAnn and Daryl Den Beste of Sheldon, Janice and Herb Berandt of Davenport, daughter Pauline Ney of Buffalo, Wyoming, Bill and Marie Ney of Yelm, Washington, Gene and Laura Ney of Ashton, Sharon and Bob Shassetz of Sterling, Arkansas, and Mike and Jackie Ney of Matlock; 28 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Tony and Evelyn Ney of Granville, Lawrence Ney of Sheldon, and Jack and Doralice Ney of Granville; four sisters, Marie Meinen of Ashton, Rosalia Koob of Granville, Frances Koob of Granville, and Colleen Penning of Granville; and a sister-in-law, Kathryn Ney of Orange City.
