Alice Prins, 93 of Orange City died Sunday July 21 at the Sioux Center Community Nursing Facility.

Memorial services were Wed. at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center with Rev. David Ter Beest officiating. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery of Orange City.

Mrs. Prins was born at Sioux Center to John and Ann (Van Wyhe) Van Berkum on May 25, 1909. She was raised on a farm north of Sioux Center and attended country school. She married Wilbur Prins at her parents home on Jan. 30, 1930. The couple farmed north of Sioux Center, later settling north of Orange City. She moved to her home in Orange City after her husband's death on March 30, 1962. She worked as a cook at Maurice/Orange City Community School and later as a cook at the DX Station on Highway 10.

She enjoyed embroidery and sewing and was well known for her baking talents, espescially home made bread, chocolate cookies and apple pies. She also enjoyed watching and listening to sports events.

She was a longtime member of First Reformed Church, Orange City.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law. Shirley and Lammert "Hap" Funk of Spirit Lake and Marcine and Harold Schiebout of Sioux Center; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Judy Prins of Grove, OK; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by seven brothers, Jim, Lawrence, Alvin, Edwin, Garold, Raymond and Wallace Van Berkum.
