Harriet B. Muyskens Maassen, 84, of Venice, Florida, died on Friday, January 6, 2007.

She was born on September 24, 1922, in Alton. She attended Northwestern College and graduated from Hope College in Holland, Michigan.

She married John Maassen, and together they served pastorates in Palmyra, New York, Kalamazoo, Michigan, Grandville, Michigan, Hingham, Wisconsin, and Des Moines, Iowa.

Harriet retired from teaching school in South Holland, Illinois. She worked in the education department at the Crystal Cathedral in Orange, California.

After retiring in Holland, Michigan, she moved to Venice, Florida, in 2000. She was a member of Vince, Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, the Reverend John; daughters Elizabeth Piel of Venice, Florida, Mary Kohmiller of Gilroy, California, Susan Toren of Shawnee, Kansas, and Janet Menzie of Katy, Texas; son Stephen of Godfrey, Illinois; sister Lois Hector of Orange City, brothers Paul Muyskens of Orange City and Joseph Muyskens of Homewood, Illinois; and 13 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 10, at 10:00 A.M. at Venice Presbyterian Church.

Inurnment will be in Holland, Michigan National Cremation Society of Sarasota, Florida, handled the arrangements.
