October 11, 1930—February 21, 1996
Catherine Karssen, 65, of Alton died Wednesday, February 21, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 24, at the Alton Reformed Church with the Rev. Roger Voskull officiating. Burial was in Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton.

Mrs. Karssen was born October 11, 1930, in Maurice, the daughter of Nicholas and Dora (Dirksen) Roghair. She was raised in Sioux County. She married Edwin "Ed" Karssen at Alton on June 26, 1951, The couple made their home in Alton. She was a nurse's assistant at the Orange City Municipal Hospital for 32 years, retiring in June 1995. She was a member of the Alton Reformed Church and Reformed Church Women's Ministries.

Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Gary N. and Mary Karssen of Omaha; a daughter and her husband, Nora R and Gray Saxen of Merrill; a daughter-in-law and her husband, Rita and Calvin Van Essen of Jasper, Minnesota; four sisters, Hermina Wichers of Alton, Harriet Boone and Dorothy De Vos, both of Hull, and Alvina Fenske of Cheyenne, Wyoming; two brothers, Edward Roghair of Sibley and Nick Roghair of Alton; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Dale Edwin. A memorial has been established in her name with Bethany Christian Services.
