Mr. James H. Jansen, 62, of Alton, passed away unexpectedly Monday, December 12, 1988, at Marian Health Center in Sioux City.

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 15 at 10 a.m. at the Reformed Church of Alton with the Revs. Raymond Tilstra and Robert Vander Schaaf officiating. Interment followed at Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton with military rites by Floyd Post 200 of the American Legion in Alton. The Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City was in charge of arrangements.

James Henry was born May 26, 1926 at Alton, the son of Henry William Jansen and Anna Magdalene Stronks Jansen. He served in the United Navy during World War II.

On March 4, 1948 he married Elizabeth Jeanette Byker at Grand Rapids, Michigan. They farmed south of Alton and also owned and operated Jansen Trucking for several years.

He served as clerk of Nassau Township for more than thirty years and was field assessor for East Orange, Floyd, and Nassau Townships for about fifteen years. He was also a Pioneer Hybrids dealer for twenty years and sexton of Nassau Township Cemetery.

He was a lifetime member of the Reformed Church and a member of the American Legion, both in Alton.

Survivors include his wife "Beth"; six children, Gregory and his wife Becky of Alton, Gwendolyn B. of Sioux City, Kevin and his wife Nancy of Alton, Valerie of Sioux City, Kimberly and her husband Gary Waddell of Le Mars, and Joni Kay and her husband Tim Hofmeyer of Hospers; eight grandchildren, Tiffany, Charissa, Rochelle and Chelsey Waddell, Noah, Laura and Nathan Jansen, and Taylor Hofmeyer; and three sisters, Esther Scholten of Paramount, California, Ruth Fennema of Alton, and Mrs. Raymond (Margaret) Lubbers of Orange City.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
