Duane Alan Sandbulte, 68, of Steen, MN, died Saturday, April 19, at the Luverne Community Hospital in Luverne, MN.

Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday at Steen Reformed Church in Steen with the Rev. Dan Ramaker officiating. Burial was in Eastside Cemetery, Steen.

Sandbulte was born April 7, 1935, at Carmel, the son of William & Rebecca (Wesselink) Sandbulte. While growing up in Carmel, he attended and graduated from Sioux Center High School. He married Bernice Vonk on June 16, 1959, at Rock Valley Reformed Church. The couple lived in Carmel till 1965, Steen from 1965 to 1976, and then Hills, MN from 1976 to the present. He worked with sons at Sandbulte Brothers Construction Co., Sioux Falls, as an independent insurance salesman for Minnesota Benefit; and as a bus driver for the Hills-Beaver Creek Schools. From 1957 to 1963 he served in the Army Nation Guard in Sheldon.

He was a member of Steen Reformed Church, where he taught catechism and Sunday school. He also served a term as Sunday school superintendent, ushered for services and was involved in the M2Program which ministers to inmates at the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls. He also helped his son Dale with custom round baling. He enjoyed farming, softball, his grandchildren, bike riding, walking and swimming.

Survivors include his wife of Hills five Sons, Dale (Jodi) of Steen; Craig(Brenda) of George; Myron (Lisa) of Hills; Nathan (Mary) of Sioux Falls, and Brian (Tracie) of Hills; two daughters, Julie (Jim) Harsma of Steen and Denise (Dudley) of Hills; 16 grandchildren; three brothers, Howard (Bernice) Sandbulte of Sioux Center; Glen Sandbulte of Winfield, Kansas; and Rodney (Carol) Sandbulte of Rock Vlley; five sisters, Hermina (August) Ykema of Allendale, MI; Angeline (Calvin) Korver of Alton; Iola Statema of Zeeland, MI; Ronda (Rich) Kooistra of Inwood; and Laura (Jim) Westra of Rock Valley; two brothers-in-law, John Draayer of Hawarden, and Ed (Elaine) Kats of Rock Valley; one sister-in-law, Hermina Sandbulte of Edgerton, MN and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Henry Bernard and Lloyd, and two sisters, Sharon Kats and Henrietta Draayer.
