Demetrio G. Lopez, 63, Sioux Center, died Saturday, July 28, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Services were Tuesday, July 31, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Sioux Center, with Douglas Klein officiating. Burial was at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Demetrio Lopez was born December 22, 1943, in Mexico City, where he grew up and worked for many years. He owned a store in Mexico and liked traveling throughout the Mexican Republic all the time until 1980, when he decided to come to the United States in the company of his only son. They started working in the jojoba and bean fields among others. They later moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where he worked for John M. and other companies. Time passed and he saved up money to open a small business in South Sioux City, Nebraska, where he lived for three years. He later decided to try his luck in Sioux Center in 1997.

His favorite foods were sopes and chiles rellenos. His favorite music was from the 1960s. He loved to go fishing and to the casino as well as shopping. He liked to joke with his clients and was a merry person. Most of all, he loved to spoil his grandchildren in anyway he could.

Survivors include a son, Apolinar “Polo” and Alma Hernandez of Sioux Center; and four grandchildren.
