From the Rock Valley Bee, April 27, 1906: Hull Happenings:

The death of a little one always appeals to the sympathy of friends as being very sad. The death of little Helen Spencer is a sad blow to her father and brother. Her father has been very devoted to her and was always her companion. The dread disease scarlet fever finally claimed her young life, though not until every means of fighting off the enemy known to human knowledge and skill had been exhausted. She passed away at 8:30 a.m. and was buried Saturday afternoon. Rev. Asmus conducted brief services at the house and grave. Prayer was offered and songs were sung and the mourners returned to their homes, realizing that there was and would be a vacant chair ever afterwards. Though little Helen's death is sad, yet t is beautiful, for Him who gives life and takes it, said: Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven. Little Helen has led the way. She has gone before.
