Henry Ruyter, son of Walter and Kathryn (Woutsma) Ruyter, was born on August 23, 1914 in Litchville, North Dakota. He lived his youth on farms in North Dakota and Iowa and attended school in North Dakota.

He was united in marriage to Maxine Miller of Hull, Iowa on April 22, 1937 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They lived in Boyden, Iowa where Henry was a self employed truck driver locally and over the road. He worked for the city of Boyden in the maintenance department and as a city police. In the spring of 1975 they moved to Sheldon, Iowa.

Henry and Maxine spent 22 winters in Texas. Henry also enjoyed golfing.

He passed away on Saturday, September 27, 1997 at the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon, Iowa at the age of 83 years, one month and 4 days.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Maxine of Sheldon, Iowa; three daughters: Sharon and her husband John Miller of Yulee, Florida, Marilyn Jorgensen of Sheldon, Iowa, Diane Griese of Sioux City, Iowa; two sons: Farrell Ruyter and his wife Pam of Mason City, Iowa, Brent Ruyter and his wife Mary of Sheldon, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Jane and her husband Vern Ingebritson of Hampton, Iowa and Gertrude Ruyter of Cofax, Iowa.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, September 30, 1997 at 10:30 A. M. at the Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon, Iowa. The Rev. Lyndon Ruyter officiated. Interment was in Boyden Cemetery in Boyden, Iowa.
