Edward Huisman, 67, of Alton died Tuesday, May 30, at the Orange City Area Health System. A funeral service was Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Alton Presbyterian Church in Alton. Ronald Brink, C. L. P., officiated. Interment was at the Nassau Township Cemetery, near Alton.

Huisman was born on July 15, 1938, at Alton, the son of Ike and Clara (Determan) Huisman. He was raised at Alton, where he graduated from elementary school. He served in the United States Navy during peacetime, stationed in Newport, Rhode Island. On September 20, 1959, he married Marlys Ann Dirks in Le Mars. They made their home in Alton. He was employed at Bitucote Products, MidWest Precast, and Russell's Ready-Mix, doing mostly concrete work. In mid-April, he became a resident of the Paullina Care Center.He was a member of Alton Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed watching ball games on television and coin collecting.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years; two sons and their wives, Michael and Jeralyn Huisman of Mason City and James and Dawn Huisman of Hospers; a daughter and her husband, Barb and Ric Even of Camdenton, Missouri; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two sisters, Alberta Van Gronigen of Le Mars and Esther Ewoldt of Paullina; and a brother, Roger Huisman of St. Ignas, Michigan. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Katherine Marie Huisman; and a brother, David Huisman.
