James Marion Hofland was the son of Jacobus and Gertie (Bonnes) Hofland. He lived his entire life on the family farm northeast of Orange City.

On October 14, 1977, he married Henrietta Alice Hagens at Newkirk. He was a farmer and carpenter. Mr. Hofland was a member of the Newkirk Reformed Church.

Survivors include his wife, Henrietta; six children, Chuck and his wife, Anita, of Hospers; Mary and her husband, Milt Wissink of Orange City; and Hope, Marilyn, Loren and Andrea, all at home; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild; a brother, Elmer of Orange City; and four sisters, Angeline Horstman of Sanborn; Catherine Schuiteman of Sioux Center; Gertrude Jacobs of Orange City; and Elsiena Bos of Hartley.

He was preceded in death by a son, Herman; to brothers, Joe C. and John; and a sister, Henrietta Mars.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 5, 1997 at 10:00 A.M. at the Newkirk Reformed Church, Hospers, Iowa. Interment was at West Lawn Cemetery at Orange City, Iowa.
