S. R. Bader died at his home in this city at 8 o'clock Tuesday morning from the infirmities of old age Samuel Russell Bader was born in Woodstock, VA. August 22, 1824, and died December 1, 1907, at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 25 days.

In 1855 he moved to Maquoketa, Iowa, where he engaged in the carriage business until 1885, at which time he moved to Sioux County where he engaged in farming for ten years. For fourteen years he has been retired from active business life.

In 1849 he was married to Mary Catherine Dyer, to whom five children were born. In 1861 he was again married to Jane Anderson, to whom two children were born. Of the six children who mourn the loss of their father, five, namely, Mrs. Mary H. Wood, Mrs. Melissa Blunt, Miss Phenia Bader, Russell P. Bader and O. A. Bader, live in Hawarden, the other son, H. Besides the six children, his widow, the companion of his life for the last 40 years, mourns his loss. For many years he had been a great sufferer and looked forward to the end when sweet release from the afflictions of life would come. Although a man of tine character and of most exemplary habits, a man greatly beloved by his neighbors ; and friends for his kind manliness he did not depend upon his own goodness for eternal life, for turning his thoughts to Christ, he committed himself into the hands of the loving Savior of the world.

Brief funeral services were held at the house in charge of Rev. H. E. Houghton, pastor of the Methodist church, Wednesday The remains were then taken to Maquoketa for interment in the family lot.
