Sioux Center News, January 11, 1945

Pfc. John F. Schutt was killed in action in Germany on Dec. 22, according to word received from the War Dept. by his fiancée, Miss. Naomi De Roos of Sanborn. Pfc. Schutt would have been 23 years old on Jan. 15.

He was inducted into the army last April and received seventeen weeks of training at Camp Roberts, CA. After a ten day furlough he went to Fort Meade, MD, and from there was sent overseas. He was a member of the 47th Inf. He was wounded on Oct. 14, and awarded the purple heart. He went back into combat on Nov. 18.

He was the son of Frank Schutt, Gary, Ind., had one sister Mrs. John Mantel, Hull and one brother Sidney, Gary, Ind. His mother preceded him in death May 17, 1923, after which his boyhood home was made with the Henry L. Vandenbergs. Previous to entering the army we worked near Sanborn.

Memorial services will be held Friday, Jan. 12, at the Christian Reformed Church 1:30 P.M. in Sanborn.
