Rena Huisman, 94, of Orange City died Monday, Nov. 23, 1998 at the Orange City Hospital. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, Nov. 25 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Timothy Ouwinga officiated. Burial followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Oolman Funeral Home.

Rena was born March 23, 1904 at Orange City, the daughter of Gerbin and Etje (De Jager) Kroeze. She was raised at Orange City. On Jan. 26, 1927 she married Andrew Huisman in Orange City. They farmed at Orange City until 1964 when they retired into Orange City. Mr. Huisman died July 20, 1979 in Sioux Center.

Rena became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home about 1988 and in 1995 she transferred to the Heritage House Nursing Home, both in Orange City. Mrs. Huisman was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church and had belonged to the Faith, Hope and Love Society, the Thy Kingdom Come Society and the Monica Society.

Survivors include six children, Verne Huisman and his wife Faye of Orange City, Esther and her husband Rodney De Haan of Safety Harbor, Fla., Helena Brandt of Kalamazoo, Mich., Ruth and her husband Vernon Boone of Sioux Center, Eleanor Van Grouw of Orange City, and Alan Huisman of Rye, N.H.; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; six sisters, Lucy Faber, Wilma Fedders, Gertrude and her husband Marion Wiersma, Matilda Newendorp, and Jennie and her husband Albert De Haan, all of Orange City, and Elizabeth and her husband Ken Vander Berg of Arizona; a brother and his wife, Steve and Marcene Kroeze of Orange City; and two sistersin-law, Bertha Kroeze and Marilyn Kroeze, both of Orange City.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Almon Brandt and Eugene Van Grouw; three infant grandchildren; three sisters, Grace Wielenga, Jessie Huisman and Nellie Van Gelder; and four brothers, Peter, John, Harry and Gary Kroeze.
