Edward Fett, a resident of Hawarden for the past seven years, passed away at the Hawarden hospital at 4 o'clock Tuesday morning following a brief illness. Mr. Fett worked at the State Park last Thursday and drove home in the evening in his lumber wagon. On the way home he was stricken with severe stomach pains but managed to reach home where he called for help to unharness his team. A physician was immediately summoned and he was at once removed to the hospital. An immediate operation was deemed essential and this was performed late Thursday evening. The operation disclosed a critical .condition with a perforated gastric ulcer. Mr. Fett lingered on, however, until early Tuesday morning, putting up a determined battle for his life but the poison had so permeated his system that he was unable to overcome it.

Funeral services will be held at the home at 1:30 o'clock and at Trinity Lutheran church in this city at 2 o'clock this afternoon, with Rev. George Steinkamp in charge. Burial will be in the Ireton cemetery.

On Feb. 23, 1910, he was united in marriage with Miss Ella M. Schellhase of Garrison, Iowa. Three children were born to this union, Gerald, who passed away in 1923; at of 12 years; and Marcella and Leo at home. They made their home near Van Horne until 1916 when they moved to Plymouth county, and seven years ago came to Hawarden and have since resided here. For five years, Mr. Fett operated the former Dr. A.J. Meyer farm at the north edge of Hawarden but for the past two years has lived in town. Mr. Fett’s father died in 1913 and his mother passed away in 1933.
