J.W. Ferguson, an old time Hawarden resident, died at his home of his daughter at Anderson, Missouri, on Sunday, January 27. Although he had been in gradually failing health for the past couple of years his death came suddenly. He had walked down town that morning and fell dead on his return home.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday of last week at the home of his daughter in Anderson and burial was made there.

John Wesley Ferguson was born in Belvidere, Illinois, December 1, 1858, so was passed 76 years of age at the time of his death. He spent his boyhood in Illinois, moving to Yankton, South Dakota, in 1878. On December 24, 1883, he was united in marriage with Miss Harriet Keniston at Seney, Iowa, and in the early 90’s the family came to Hawarden and made their home here for many years. They left Hawarden in 1919 and have since made their home at Anderson.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Pearl Harvey of Marshfield, Oregon, and Mrs. Ray Heald of Anderson. He also leaves two sisters and five grandchildren. A brother-in-law, B.D. Van Zandt of Cheyenne, Wyoming, was visiting at Anderson at the time of his death.

“Wes” Ferguson was well known to nearly all of the older Hawarden residents. He was possessed of a care-free, jovial disposition and was a man of honor in all his business and personal relations with his fellow men. He had many old friends in the Hawarden community who learned of his death with sincere regret.
