Gerrit Roetman died at his home in Orange City Monday morning at about two o'clock from the infirmities of age—he being about seventy eight years old. Deceased was born near the town of Kampen in the province of Overeisel in the Netherlands on the eleventh day of October 1829.

In 1882 he immigrated to the United States and settled in Sioux county Iowa where he bought an eighty acre farm near the town of Hospers. He was a member of the Dutch Reformed church and a respected citizen. Deceased was married to Greitje Dokter in 1861 in his native land and to their union eight children were born. In 1872 Mrs, Roetman died and in 1876 Mr. Roetman was united in wedlock with Miss Mary Kanis and to this union five children were born.

Funeral services were held from the Dutch Reformed church in Orange City on Wednesday—Rev, Heemstra officiating— after which interment was made in the Orange City cemetery. There were present from abroad at the funeral John Roetman and wife of Leota Minnesota, Tiemen Roetman and wife from Edgerton and Zwier Roetman of Holland Michigan.

Deceased is survived by his wife and seven children. The living children by the first marriage are John and Tiemen and Mrs. Henry DeGroot of Middleburg. The living children by the second marriage are Henry of Middleburg, Zwier —who is attending Hope Seminary at Holland Michigan—Mrs. Gerrit DeHaan of Orange City and Miss Jennie Roetman at home. Deceased is also survived by two brothers— Lammert of Hospers and one brother residing in the Netherlands,
