Mrs. Faye Huisman, age 86, of Hull, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2014, at her residence.

There will be a memorial service on Monday, September 8, at 1:30pm, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Loren Kotman will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. There will be a family prayer service on Monday, at 12:30pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Visitation will be after 6:00pm on Sunday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the funeral home.

Faye was born on June 16, 1928, in Sioux Center, the daughter of Ben B. and Hattie (Ramaker) Mouw. She was raised at Sioux Center, where she graduated from high school. She then attended a teacher’s college and taught classes in a country school.

On August 15, 1948, she married Verne William Huisman at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. They farmed north of Orange City. She was an industrious homemaker who fostered/mentored eighteen children along with raising her own. In 2003, they moved to Hull.

Mrs. Huisman was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church.

She enjoyed every moment of babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, canning, decorating, gardening, horseback riding, and sewing.

Survivors include her husband of more than 66 years; three children, Valerie, and her husband, Bruce Van Schepen, of Orange City; Gene Huisman, of Sioux Center; and Gail, and her husband, Bryan De Jong, of Waukee; a daughter-in-law, Kay Huisman, of Orange City; eleven grandchildren, Kevin (Sherry) Van Schepen, Angela (Mike) Broek, Melanie (Matthew) Vande Hoef, Briana (Matthew) Roetman, Justin (Sheila) Van Schepen, Brittany (Travis) Veldman, Jessica Galles, Liza (Jeff) Schouten, Wade (Angela) Huisman, Benjamen (Emily) De Jong, and Lindsey De Jong; 32 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson; a brother and his wife, Orvin and Ernestine Mouw, of Texas; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Mouw, of Sioux Center.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Wesley, and Jan, an infant twin of Gene.

Memorials will be directed to the Hull and Orange City Christian Schools.
