Died: June 1, 2005 Sioux Center, Iowa

Nellie Van Wyhe, 92, of Hull died Wednesday, June 1, at the Sioux Center Community Nursing Facility. A memorial service was Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Christian Reformed Church of Hull with the Rev. Art Van Wyhe and the Rev. Arnold Punt officiating. Interment was in Hope Cemetery of Hull.

Mrs. Van Wyhe was born on September 8, 1912, to Klaas and Henrietta (Beek) Verburg on a farm south of Rock Valley. She attended church and school in Rock Valley and married William Van Wyhe of Hull on March 4, 1936. They lived on two farms south of Rock Valley for the first six years of their marriage and later moved to the Van Wyhe home place a mile west of Perkins corner where her husband had grown up.

The couple raised their six children on the farm and resided there until 1976. They then retired to Hull, where her husband died 1½ years later at age 68.

In 1996 she moved to Franken Manor in Sioux Center. In September of 2003 she was hospitalized in Sioux City with health problems. Following her return she moved to the Sioux Center Nursing Facility. She enjoyed some tours and sightseeing and visiting children in the years prior to her nursing home residency. She has always been a very good seamstress and has enjoyed sewing, crocheting and crafts. She also enjoyed gardening and canning.

Survivors include her children, Marlene and Jasper (Jack) Timmer of Sioux Center, Kerwin and Fran of Denver, Colorado, Willard and Beverly of Webster City, the Rev. Art and Joanne of Holland, Michigan, Janice and Gary Bomgaars of Denver and Daryl and Marvella of Hull;
21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; three brothers, William and Gertrude Verburg of Primghar, Henry and Ann Verburg of Sheldon and Richard and Marian Verburg of Rock Valley.

She was also preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Albert Vink; and one infant granddaughter.
