Jesse Cox 72, Dies Yesterday
Succumbs in Hawarden Hospital After Attempt Last Sunday to End His Life With a Razor.

Jesse Cox, 72, died at the hospital yesterday after what police said was an attempt to end his own life last Sunday. Police said Mr. Cox, apparently despondent over housing and other problems, cut his throat and wrist with a straight edge razor Sunday evening. He was found lying near a bush in the yard of the Mrs. Hannah McManaman home, where he stayed the last several months, on Central avenue.

Funeral Arrangements had not been completed this morning. Mr. Cox, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Cox, was born March 26, 1876, and spent practically all his life in Union county. He grew up on the Cox farm west of Hawarden.

He married Adlia Anderson and of after his marriage he continued to farm. A number of years ago he retired because of ill health. About four years ago he and his wife went to Sioux City to live. She died in 1947.

Survivors are two sons, Edwin of Sioux City and Fred of Los Angeles four sisters, Mrs. W. C. Newton and Mrs. Ernest Bancroft of Hawarden, Mrs. John Edson of Alcester and Mrs. Lilly Graham of Sioux City and two brothers, John of Havre, Mont., and Harvey of Albany OR.
