MRS. O. E, HOFLUND SUCCUMBS TO BRIEF ILLNESS
Had Been a Resident of Hawarden for 31 Years Survived by husband and Two Daughters

Mrs. O. E. Hoflund, for more than thirty years a resident of this city, passed away at the Hawarden hospital about 7 o'clock Monday evening. She had been in ill health for a number of weeks and on April 15th entered the hospital for treatment On Wednesday, April 27th, she submitted to an operation, complications followed and death came to relieve her suffering. While it was known that, her condition was critical, news of her death came as a distinct shock to her many friends in the community.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church in this city with her pastor, Rev. Robert F. Chapler in charge. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery. The Hawarden business houses were closed during the funeral hour, and the many floral, offerings attested to the -high esteem in which she was held in this community.

Minnie Mahler was born in Chicago January 3, 1872, and grew to young womanhood in that city. On November 24, 1897, she was united in marriage , with Oliver E. Hoflund in Chicago. They continued to make their home in that city until 1907 when Mr. Hoflund purchased a hardware business here and the family moved to Hawarden and this city has since continued to be her home.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Grace Gregg of Hawarden and Mrs. Ruth Warrick of Meadow Grove, Neb., and five grandchildren, Glenn and Frances Gregg and John W. and Robert and Janet Warrick. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. A. R. Squire of Colvilla WA.

Mrs. Hoflund was a splendid Christian woman having been a member of the Hawarden Methodist church for the past thirty one years, and having been an active worker in the church. Sunday school and Ladies' Aid Society. She was head of the Cradle Roll department for 25 years. She has served as financial secretary of the church for many years. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Mutual Improvement Club and was an active worker in all of these organizations.

Her death brought sadness to the homes of many Hawarden people who knew her as a friend and neighbor and :a woman of fine Christian ideals and impulses whose influence was ever exerted in the interest of community betterment. To the sorrowing husband and daughters goes out the sincerest sympathy of the community.

Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were C. E. Hofiund and Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Briggs of Omaha and Mr. and Mrs. F. A. High of Lincoln, Neb.
