Milo D. Gibbs of Alton, pioneer Sioux County citizen and for many years a prominent banker, passed away at his home at Alton on Wednesday night of last week from a heart attack. Mr. Gibbs was 78 years old. He was born in 1861 at Fon du Lac, Wisconsin and came to Sioux County as a young man in 1880. For a time he was president of the First National Bank at Hull and was cashier of the Bank of Northwestern Iowa at Alton from 1883 to 1926.

Mrs. Gibbs served for 54 years as treasurer of the Alton school district, resigning this position last August. He was city treasurer of Alton for 40 years before resigning. During recent years he served as receiver for the Exchange Bank of Northwestern Iowa at Alton.

Mr. Gibbs married Stella S. Sargeant in 1891 and she survives him. There are also four children, Mrs. E.C. Dunkelberg of Alton, Milo S. of Bollene, France, and George and Gerald A. , both of Chicago.

Mr. Gibbs was a long active as a Mason in Iowa and was a past grand treasurer of the Iowa Masonic Grand Lodge. During his entire lifetime in Sioux County he took an active interest in Political affairs and while he never sought public office himself he was long prominent in Republican organization affairs. Mr. Gibbs was a man of gentle and kindly disposition who was widely known for his good works. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Alton.

Funeral services were held at Alton Saturday afternoon with the Masonic Lodge in charge of the service at the Alton cemetery.
