Died Suddenly

Peter Van Meveren died Tuesday evening, April 24, 1928, at his home in the south part of town as a result of an apparent stroke the day before.

Mr. Van Meveren was in his usual good health and probably the last work he did was to help pull the cement mixer away from where it had been used for the new Tribune Home.

Peter Van Meveren was born at Pella, Iowa, on July 13, 1860, and was thus 67 years, 9 months and 10 days at the time of his death. As a young man he worked in the coal mines in the Knoxville vicinity and could tell many interesting stories of the work and the hairbreath escapes while engaged in that work. About 35 years ago he came to this country and engaged in the threshing business, often working with large crews. This work he discontinued about eight or nine years ago. since then he has been leading a retired life occasionally doing odd jobs.

Peter Van Meveren was just and only a straight American citizen and did not belong to any church, lodge organization of any kind. His creed was "do unto others as you would have others do unto you." He was strictly honest and charitable in his dealings with his fellow man. Mr. Van Meveren had never been married and made his home with his sister, Mrs. Nellie Jones, in Hospers and besides Mrs. Jones is survived by one brother, Arie Van Meveren of Edgerton, Minn.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon with services at the house and at the Presbyterian church in charge of Rev. Budd, and interment made in the cemetery west of Hospers.
