Born: May 12, 1890
Died: 1931

Oscar O. Green, a lifelong resident of this community, passed away at his home in this city about 2 o'clock Sunday morning following an illness of about 10 days from heart trouble. Although it was generally known that his condition was critical, the announcement of his death caused genuine sadness among his large circle of friends in this community.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Associated Church with the pastor, Rev. R.J. Cornell, in charge. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery beside his father who passed away thirteen years ago. The funeral was largely attended.

Oscar Otto Green, son of William and Rhoda Green, was born on a farm three miles northwest of Hawarden, in Union County, S.D. on May 12, 1890 and so was 41 years, 6 months and 3 days of age at the time of his death. He attended the rural school as a boy and later attended the Hawarden High School for two years. About twenty-one years of age he was stricken with infantile paralysis. He was then a young man of 20 and life had seemed full of promise for him. Because of the cheerful and courageous spirit with which he faced life in spite of his physical affliction, his life had been an inspiration to his many friends in this community throughout the intervening years. With his mother he moved to Hawarden about thirteen years ago, shortly after his father's death, and has made his home here ever since. He engaged in the taxi business and operated his car in all kinds of weather and regardless of road conditions in spite of his physical handicap. In addition to operating his taxi business he wrote life insurance for a number of years. He acquired a wide circle of friends who extend sincere sympathy to his relatives.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Rhoda Green; one brother, Amos Green; and three sisters, Mrs. Guy Venard; and the Misses Ona and Minnie Green, all of whom reside in this community. His death is also mourned by his two nieces and five nephews.

Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Rafe Green, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Pace, Mr. and Mrs. Bert McGuire; Mrs. Edith Eslick; Rafe Eslick; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Pike; Mrs. Emma Pike; Mrs. Mary Pike and Mr. and Mrs. Hofstad and daughter of Elk Point; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Smith of Spink, S.D.; Miss Mable Green and J.O. Green of Sioux Falls; Mrs. H.M. Angle and Mrs. S.G. Vickerstaff and daughter Jean of Ida Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Edward McGuire of Sioux City and Lloyd Helland of Fedora, S.D.
