Joanne Edna Haack, 92, of Sanborn, formerly of Hospers, died Sunday, November 28,at Prairie View Care Center in Sanborn. Services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Reformed Church in Hospers with the Rev. Milton Sikkema officiating; Burial was in Hospers Cemetery.

Mrs. Haack was born December 20, 1911, in Westfield, North Dakota, the daughter of Henry and Minnie (Renskers) Ten Clay. She lived in the rural Westfield – Hull area, receiving her education in Hull, North Dakota. She enjoyed taking part in community activities, especially as a member of the girls "Willing Workers." Music was important in her young life and she became the church organist there. She married John Haack of Hospers at her home near Westfield on September 4,1940. They settled on the Haack family farm in Hospers and lived there for 34 years. They moved into Hospers in 1977.

The couple moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon in 1988, where they enjoyed several years together. He died March 20, 2003, in Sheldon. At that time, she entered Prairie View Care Center in Sanborn. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Hospers, was active in Reformed Church Women's Ministries, taught Sunday school classes at various times for more than 35 years and sang in the choir for many years.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Daryl and Alyda of Primghar and Duane and Robin of Sheldon; a daughter and her husband, Beverly and the Rev. Ray Ohlendorf of Taylorsville, North Carolina; seven grandsons; two granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Charles and Ruth Ten Clay of Sheldon, Thelmar Ten Clay of Eugene, Oregon, Ellsworth Ten Clay of Zeeland Michigan, and Eugene Ten Clay of Mesa, Arizona; four sisters-in-law, Lucille Ten Clay of Zeeland, Irene Ten Clay of Sanborn and Jane and Arlene Ten Clay, both of Orange City; and a brother-in-law, Herman Webb of Baker City, Oregon. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Elsie in childhood, Margaret Webb and Hattie Van Bruggen; and six brothers, Bill, Henry, John, Dick, Ralph and Albert Ten Clay.
