Balke Hultquist, 54, of Ireton, died Thurs. April 17, 2003 at his residence in Ireton following a battle with cancer.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton with Rev. Warren Prochnow officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 276 of Ireton. The Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Blake Hultquist was born Oct. 14, 1948 in York, NE, the son of Ken and Betty (Haberman) Hultquist. He was baptized April 10, 1949 at Presbyterian Congregational Church in York and confirmed at Associated Church in Hawarden, IA and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton. Blake graduated from West Sioux High School in Hawarden in 1966 and attended University of South Dakota and South Dakota University. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps from Feb. 12, 1969, to Feb 11, 1971.

He married Val Vreeman on Aug. 17, 1973 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. They made their home in Ireton, where he was the office manager of Siouxland Propane. He was an elder at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a treasurer for the American Legion in Ireton. He enjoyed golfing, bonfires, grilling out with family and friends and time spent with his family at the lake.

Blake is survived by his parents Ken and Betty Hultquist of Hawarden, Ia: his wife, Val; three children, Angela Fuller and her husband, Justin and their children, Ella and Maci of Rock Valley, IA; Ryan Hultquist, currently attending Iowa State University at Ames, IA, and Austin Hultquist at home; a sister-in-law Bev Hultquist of Brunsville, IA and her children, Heidi and Beau; a brother, Brad Hultquist and his wife Hillary of Chicago, Ill., and their children, Ian and Taylor; his wife's parents, Bud and Delma Vreeman; two brothers-in-law, Greg Vreeman and his wife, Genise and Scott Vreeman and his fiancee, Gena all of Ireton; three sisters-in-law, Pam Everett and her husband, Mick of South Sioux City, Patti Benz and her husband, Bob of Friday Harbor, WA., and Lisa Hanson and her husband, Tom of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and many other nephews, nieces and dear friends.

Blake was preceded in death by a brother, Brian Hultquist.
