Died: March 20, 2003 Sheldon, Iowa

John Haack,89,of Sheldon,formerly of Hospers,Iowa,died Thursday March 20,2003,at Northwest Iowa Health Center,in Sheldon.Services will be 10 a.m.Monday at Frist Reformed Church in Hospers,with Rev.Milton Sikkema officiating.Burial in Hospers Cemetery. Visitation will be with family from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Church.

John was born the son of John and Romkje (Talsma )Haack on a farm five miles east of Archer,Iowa on Aug.23, 1913. When he was 5 years old he moved with his family to a farm southeast of Hospers. This became the Home Farm,which is still occupied by son Duane. John attended country school to the eighth grade and later one year of high school in Hospers.

He married Edna Ten Clay on Sept. 4, 1940 in Westfield, N.D. They lived on the Home Farm for 37 years then moved into Hospers in 1977. In 1998 he moved into Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon.

He was a member of First Reformed Church and was a consistory for 28 years. A member of Gideon's International since 1975. He served on the board of Directors as a chairman at Farmer Co-op Elevator in Hospers, Iowa for several years.

Survivors include his wife of 62 yrs; son Daryl and wife Alyda of Primghar and their sons, Scott and wife Delaine and their children Ashlyn and Alexander of Dubuque, Joshua and sons, Anthony and Seth of Texas, Michael and wife Lauren of Fla., Christopher and wife Carolyn of Neb., Duane and Robin of Hospers their children, Jennifer of North Liberty, Kyle of MI., Nathan and wife Sally of MN.; daughter Mrs. Rev. Ray (Beverly )Ohlendorf of N.C., their children, Rachel and husband Larry Kovaciny of MN., and John of Taylorsville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Tietje in infancy and Tillie Hougen; and two brothers,Clarence and James.

Memorials are being directed to the Gideon's.
