Alberta Vermeer
Alberta Kooiker Vermeer, 89, of Pella, formerly of Hull, was taken home to be with her Lord on October 10, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella. Funeral service was Friday, October 15, at 1:30 p.m. at First Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. David Sikkema officiating. Interment was at Hope Cemetery in Hull.

Mrs. Vermeer was born June 15, 1915, in Hull. She was the oldest of three children, born to Lubert and Pearl (DeWild) Kooiker. Her formal education began in the Hull Public Schools, continued at Northwestern Jr. College, Orange City, and was completed at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. Her vocation of teaching began in Kent City, Michigan, but her focus changed when she married Henry J. Vermeer, son of Jacob and Anna Vermeer, on August 10, 1939, in Hull at the First Reformed Church, of which she was a member since childhood. They served churches in Michigan, Chicago, Wisconsin, Colorado and Iowa. Upon their retirement in 1977, they lived in Hull, Bradenton, FL (during the winter months), and Pella, where they continued to serve family and friends in God's kingdom.

She was active in World Home Bible League, RCA Women's Work, Pella Women's Club, Fortnightly, Crossroads Prison Ministry, First Reformed Ladies Aid and Reformed Church Board of Pensions. She was an accomplished pianist, which she used in numerous situations. Her primary interests were her family, church, hospitality and travel.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years; her children and their families, Lorna and Mike Schrier of Montgomery, Alabama, and Jim and Pam Vermeer of Waukee; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother, Dr. Anthony Kooiker, Orange City; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harvey and Johanna Vermeer, Sioux Center; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Arthur Kooiker; sister- in-law, Billie Kooiker; and brother-in law and sister-in law, George and Dorothy (Vermeer) Addison.

Memorials may be directed to the Alberta Vermeer Charitable Foundation or the Mission Fund of the First Reformed Church in Hull.
