Aileen Blauwet, 82, of Larchwood died Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Larchwood, with Father Jeff Schleisman officiating. Burial will be in Larchwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish wake service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Roste Funeral Home in Larchwood.

Aileen Blauwet, daughter of Charles and Ida Van Vooren, was born Feb. 18, 1922, on the family farm near Rock Valley. She grew up in the Rock Valley area where she attended country school.

She married Albert George Blauwet on June 4, 1946, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rock Valley. They moved to a farm southeast of Larchwood to the Blauwet family farm. They left the farm in 1998 and moved into Larchwood and lived on Snyder's Circle. She felt she had some minor health concerns during the past year, but continued to be active. Just days ago she became a patient at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. after she was diagnosed with cancer. Her health steadily declined.

She enjoyed many activities, including playing cards and going to baseball games. She was an active bowler for many years at Eastway Bowl in Sioux Falls, and for some time she and her husband bowled with couples in Canton, S.D. Years later, at age 65 she took up golfing in Larchwood and looked forward to her golf outings with her family and friends. Family was important to her and she cherished following her children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's activities.

She was a social person and was known for her straightforward approach to expressing her opinions. She was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Larchwood throughout her married life and served on the Altar Society.

Survivors include her husband, Albert of Larchwood; five children, Roger Blauwet of Washington D.C., Dale "Barney" and Judy Blauwet of Larchwood, Allen "Shorty" and Sue Blauwet of Canton, S.D. and Scott Blauwet of Rock Rapids; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Louise Baatz.

She was preceded in death by a brother Chuck Van Vooren; and two sisters, Mary Lems, and Marge Hevern.

Memorials may be directed to Hope Haven.
