Obituary.
Susan Pope Mitchell nee French, wife of George W. Mitchell, died at her home on Railroad street at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 23 at the age of seventy-five years. Mrs. Mitchell was born May 26, 1828, at Glover, Vt. She was married to Mr. Mitchell August 10, 1856[?]. They moved first to Ohio, several years later moving to this place. Four children were born to them: George W., Jr., who lives in Ohio and Mrs. Julia Brown of this city. [yes, only these two were mentioned]

Mrs. Mitchell has been more or less a sufferer for some years, and for the past seven or eight months has suffered greatly from a complication of diseases. All that loving hearts and kind hands could do was done to make her sufferings easier to bear. Her sister, Mrs. Amanda Hamm of Sacramento, Cal., was with her for the past four months and gave such care as only a sister could. The deceased has been a communicant of the Methodist Episcopal church for the past twenty-three years, dying in the body faith. She was a consistent Christian woman.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church Thursday, December 24. A large number of friends and neighbors attended to pay last tribute to the deceased. The pall bearers were the members of the G.A.R. post of Rock Valley.

The Card of Thanks that follows is signed by George W. Mitchell, Julia E. Brown, and Amanda F. Hamm.
